#IGQuiltFest2025 – Sewing Machines

Lately, I’ve been incredibly fortunate with the kinds of quilt-related calls I get for my business—and this little Featherweight was the result of one of them! An older couple reached out to see if I was interested in purchasing their Featherweight. I wasn’t exactly in the market for one, but… well, you know how that goes. 😉 So, of course, she came home with me!

I’ve named this beauty Velma after my paternal grandmother, who once owned a Featherweight herself. My mother told me she eventually got rid of it, but I love knowing that this machine connects me to her in some way. Velma also taught me to crochet, so it feels extra special to have a machine that carries her name.

The second machine in my lineup is my absolute baby—my Bernina 770QE. This machine was a gift from an incredibly generous person, and let’s just say… there were definitely tears when I received it. 🥹💕

#IGQuiltFest2025 – First Quilt

My first quilt holds a special place in my heart. In 1986, when I was 16, my maternal grandmother, Evelyn, helped me make a simple Around the World quilt. Back then, Walmart sold “precut” quilting squares in meat trays, wrapped in plastic like you’d find at the butcher counter. The color choices were limited—pink, orange, brown, and a few others I can’t recall. I’ve never been a pink person, but I settled on the pink pack.

Grandma was making quilts for all her children and grandchildren in order of age, and I was one of the last. Every summer, my parents sent my brother and me to Southern Illinois to visit both sets of grandparents, and it was always a craft fest between the two. With Grandma Evelyn’s help, we pieced my quilt from those squares, and polyester batting, backed it with a sheet, and a friend of hers quilted it.

This quilt is my most treasured. I feel my grandmother’s love in it every day because she gave me the love of quilting—back when quilting wasn’t cool.

I had the honor of quilting @Stephskardal’s stun

I had the honor of quilting @Stephskardal’s stunning quilt and challenged @robertgriffithindustrialdesign to create a custom edge-to-edge digital pattern just for it! The design features a playful mix of circles and rectangles, so we’re naming it Hopscotch!
